Implantology
Implantology is a branch of dentistry that deals with the placement of implants in the edentulous bone of the upper and lower jaw replacing the lost tooth root. Through the process of osseointegration, a dental implant, made of biocompatible titanium material, binds tightly to the surrounding bone and allows functional and aesthetic restoration of one or more lost teeth. Losing just one tooth can disrupt the stability of the entire jaw can cause the remaining teeth to move, create chewing problems, and alter the appearance of the face so that the person looks older.
An implant is a small screw that is inserted into the bone of the upper and lower jaw, and serves as a replacement for the root of a lost tooth. It is an "artificial" root, made of the precious metal titanium, which is the most biocompatible material for human bone. The implant completely replaces the lost tooth, enables optimal matriculation and an excellent aesthetic result. It enables the preservation of the surrounding teeth: there is no need to treat other teeth for implant insertion, as is the practice with prosthetic bridges.
